PS: On my last post. You’ve caught a key thing by giving the answer Word and Sacrament properly used. Because, as I use to do, one could agree with “no argumentation works” or that “no decision theology works”, then one answers, well I must persuade them of the Gospel and actually going back to the two things you agreed didn’t work with how you “do the Gospel”.

Dr. Baker you are spot on again! When I was still a rank atheist what use to frustrate me so much when a close co-worker Christian friend would witness to me was the “faith” part. I just couldn’t ‘get enough proof or argumentation’ to “believe” and I use to get furious over that. Then when I became a Christian “decision” theology practically covered Christ up to me and I use to “decide” myself to death wondering why God would “take my decision” and “work in me to make me better”. Believing, that is trusting nakedly in Christ’s finished work alone, Him taking my sin and ESPECIALLY He giving me His righteousness is impossible on our own. Like you said no amount of argumentation or deciding can “get you there at all”. It’s hard to communicate but as long as you “try for grace” you can never have it because you wonder ALL the time if your “trying” “got it”, that is the grace. But once you stop “trying to get it”, dying, BAM, you have it as it comes objectively to you. I don’t know if that makes sense or not.

Blessings again,

Larry ky
