Close Communion Conversations

Close Communion Conversations

From the Preface

My aim in writing Close Communion Conversations was to set forth a theological exposition on altar fellowship that is catholic, Biblical, and gospel-centered. It sought at every turn to avoid the extremes of legalism and lawlessness. I do hope at a minimum that in a responsible fashion I have opened the door for a meaningful conversation on a subject, a subject where we have had far too little in-depth, rubber-hits-the road conversations.

I also hope that Close Communion Conversations will be a means by which the Holy Spirit helps Lutherans to walk together more closely on the vital issue of altar fellowship. I pray that it also will help brothers and sisters in Christ outside of Lutheranism to grapple with what is the essence of true, evangelical theology. We are all in this together as members of the one body of Christ. Fidelity to the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ—our true power—is what is at stake.
